Ms. Grace Shirley (pictured), a student at Parkland College, has been named the recipient of 2018 College Mouse Scholarship. Ms. Shirley was chosen from more than 30 applicants and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.
“We are delighted to award this scholarship to Ms. Grace Shirley,” said Daniel Musiitwa, Editor at College Mouse. “Ms. Shirley’s excellent all-round record in high school makes her deserving recipient of this scholarship.”
Ms. Shirley, 19, is currently an undergraduate student at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, where she’s studying Early Childhood Education. Her career goal is to work with young children with disabilities or special needs.
“I am grateful to College Mouse for the scholarship,” said Ms. Shirley. “The funds will be very helpful to assist in paying college expenses.”
Launched earlier this year, the College Mouse $1,500 scholarship supports students enrolled or planning to enroll at a US university, college or vocational institution. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants are required to submit a cover letter and a video or written essay on the topic – Why College Matters to Me.
While at Champaign Central High School, Ms. Shirley was a multi-sport athlete, participating in cross-country, cheerleading and track sports. She was active in numerous clubs and organizations, including Leaders Make Leaders, the Student Council, and National Honor Society. In addition, she regularly volunteered in her church and in her community. She recently earned the Citation Award from Awana, a Christian-based organization.
