A resume and cover letter are the first documents that potential employers will likely see to determine whether a potential candidate is a fit for whatever role they are looking to fill.

For many job applicants, it is no wonder that writing a resume can seem daunting given the high stakes.

No matter what stage you are in your career, getting professional help is always a worthwhile investment when it comes to positioning yourself for any opportunity. For fresh graduates and first-time job-seekers, there may be support available from your college career guidance counselor. For mid-career professionals, it is recommended to seek out a qualified career coach or counselor, who understands the industry or job market you are seeking to break into.

Can’t afford to consult a career counselor? The good news is that there are many resources online to help job seekers with their resume preparation.

Think of your resume as an advertisement, and YOU as the product. Your goal is to get employers buy what you have to offer. Your resume is your marketing tool, and your opportunity to stand out from all your competitors. Likewise, your cover letter is your opportunity to show your future employer that you understand their organization, understand their need, and that you are uniquely positioned to fill that need.
