Jennifer Meyer is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a National Certified Counselor. She earned her Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado with an emphasis in Clinical Counseling. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University in English.
Jennifer’s therapeutic approach includes: client-centered therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family systems theory, and existentialism. The use of interpersonal processing techniques forms the foundation of her overall approach to therapy. In this approach, the emphasis is on the importance of the therapeutic relationship. Using the relationship, the goal is to provide clients with reparative experiences that will allow them to create more affirming and effective self-narratives. Frequently, due to developmental and attachment injuries, many people learned early on to cope in unhealthy ways in order to manage unmet needs. Although these dysfunctional ways of coping are created unconsciously to avoid or minimize anxiety, they often create conflict in romantic, family, and work relationships. By focusing on the relationship between myself and the client in a “safe” space, clients are encouraged to test out new, more effective interactions in the therapeutic relationship while gaining instant feedback.
